Mobsters are another one. In any Socrcese film, the mafia come accross as omnipotent as the Illuminatti.
The mobster, the hitman, the serial killer. The types are invincible, invulnerable, immortal. Occassionally omnipotent.
Better to be evil than nothing? Who says the alternative is nothing? I wish I could see such philosophical nuances in these films. It would give the mind something to work with. As is, all I really see is sadism.

My favorite English film critic, Mark Karmode, ("Dr. Karmode to his fans) takes on Devil's Rejects:

" I have no tolerence for addolescent Manson appologists."

These guts in the fan blades movies also violate the chief rule of drama - no real conflict.
“We must not always talk in the marketplace,” Hester Prynne said, “of what happens to us in the forest.”

Karmode is full of shit when talking about Tarantino, who he just hates. He really shredded Grindhouse.

No, he's spot on when talking Tarantino, a fanboy hack who scraped the bottom of the barrell with Grindhouse (the Robert Rodriguez section wasn't too bad. . .).

had to google Mr. Zombie and his flicks. Really? Why would anyone watch that stuff? I can think of better ways to get a charge. Like licking my index finger and sticking it in a lite socket. Just sayin...

I'd like know that myself. Considering how it's taken over the industry, there must be more than a few people who crave that stuff. . .

I'd assume the lot of them are heavy metal fans.

Watching the guy who plays the clown reminds me of when I saw Maniac and couldn't believe a charactor actor like Joe Spinell could make such woman hating trash! I felt unclean.

K. I will admit to being a watcher of The Food Network, and even a fan of the program mentioned by this columnist.
But the combination of "Food Network cake judge" and "Rob Zombie" tells me everything I need to know about his credentials as an edgy horrormeister.

And again, love this show.

- I love to find adventure. All I need is a change of clothes, my Nikon, an open mind and a strong cup of coffee.

On a somewhat related note, Jim emerson on "dare" films.

The concept of certain films as endurence test is relevant I think. It played a huge role in my own filmgoing expereinces, and ceased being a factor only relatively recently.

The question to ask is what is the sickest horror movie that you like?
Mine would be Salo.
