Love 'em both, always have. The only two YES albums I can say I truly didn't care for were TORMATO and BIG GENERATOR. I'm liking TORMATO more, but it always felt like none of those songs belonged on the same album together. As for BIG GENERATOR...well.

LEFTOVERTURE and POINT OF KNOW RETURN always felt like part one and part two of the same album. Great stuff.

I'm liking TORMATO more, but it always felt like none of those songs belonged on the same album together.

If you get the remastered version of TORMATO of a few years ago with the studio outtakes you'll find an example of a potentially great album that got away. It would have required them to shed somewhat their signature "sound" which had pretty much become a formula at that point. They weren't willing to do that and they wound up with a YES album with a lot of their classic moves without the inspiration. That said On the Silent Wings of Freedom is one of Chris Squire's finest sessions. For me the rest of it kinda just lays there. A disappointment after the unalloyed brilliance of their previous work GOING FOR THE ONE. For me GFTO was the end of the classic period of YES music.

I like'em noisy and droney and melodic. A word to the wise -Christian Fennesz's new album Becs is a killer.

Somebody has already put it on Youtube but Christian is not getting a dime from that so I can't ethically provide a link. Instead go here http://editionsmego.bandcamp.com/album/b-cs
for a taste and if you like it either purchase a hardcopy or download in any number of formats.

Support the artist, motherfuckers!

I do have that version of TORMATO and I do like the additional tracks, although I'd heard most of them before from the boxed set. And I agree, On The Silent Wings of Freedom is inspired.

I recently read an article about the so-called "lost" YES album, TALK, which was the last one with Trevor Rabin. I didn't realize it had fallen between the cracks the way it had. I thought it was a worthy effort, the true successor to 90125.

I'm looking forward to the new one. I've heard the new singer and he's as close to Jon Anderson as they're likely to get. But what I'm really looking forward to is the new band Anderson is putting together.
