I still remember how much I enjoyed Mr. Wein's X-Mens, Spider-Mans and Batmans way back when.

Anything I can afford to do, I will.

Obama did a town hall in Turkey, TURKEY!! That guy is doing things Bush would never do. Too bad he didn't mention the fact that Turkey has treated the Kurds like shit for a lifetime.

He wanted the symbolism of Muslims with no head scarfs, more western and white looking, less scary. Healing the world is important, at least.

Yesterday I received eMail from Len--probably posted the night before--which was completely normal. An hour later I heard about the fire.
When there is anything we can do, please let us know (directly, if possible).

Breaking my self-imposed exile to add my good wishes for Len Wein and his family. A house fire is a devastating event, especially when lives--even the lives of pets--are lost. Rebuilding, both physically and emotionally, is never easy.

I've been a fan of Len's work since the original run of SWAMP THING; I'm more familiar with his DC stuff than the work he did for Marvel. May he and his come out of this stronger than ever.

A bit of interesting local news over here... you remember about the collapse of the Cologne city archive five weeks ago? While salvaging documents they found a cat in the rubble - alive. Undernourished but well. It must have sipped dripping rainwater. Belongs to someone in the same street. Photo:

Obama should know that Turkey needs to comply with EU admission guidelines where certain freedoms are concerned - they have a long way to go.

When "later" comes, I hope that there is something I can do, even though I've never met your friend...but for now, you're absolutely correct, Harlan. I'm sure there's a time and place for help, but it's just best to let him get through this one day at a time.

Best wishes to Mr. Wein and his family.

Scott,
Let me be the first to welcome you here, dispite the tragic circumstances for Len, Chris, & Mike. I believe you'll find this spot alive with discussion on a variety of topics.

By the way, we met recently at Pat Fraley's November Narration Workshop. I look forward to your posts here.

one - I had Thanksgiving dinner in that house. Len is an sweet, super classy guy and I am just sick to my stomach. It will be quite a while before they actually need us so just hang tight. I'll set something up when the time is right.

two - We don't tell people to shut the fuck up here. Ok, I do. But I'm the only one with the big boot.

FYI, the great Mark Evanier is spearheading an effort to rebuild Len's comic book collection (or at least the issues that he wrote or edited). Those who wish to contribute can check his blog for updates:

As he so often is, Harlan is right about giving Len and Chris time to process this nightmare. That said...

I have not forgotten Len's many kindnesses to me during my early years in comics and hope I'll get the opportunity to repay those kindnesses in some small fashion.
