Writing a Dumb Joke

Postby kevinkirby » Sat Jul 05, 2008 4:47 pm

Here's a story that might make a good comic strip:

Okay, here it goes...

The scene is heaven, just past the Pearly Gates and on the far side of eternity. Looking around at this place, we see recent arrival Harlan, and he seems slightly annoyed. He goes over to a four-foot five gentleman whose twisted-up watch cap slightly resembles--from a certain angle--a Mitre.

"Hey, Pietro," calls out the new guy. "How come there's only about a hundred of us here?"

"Ahh, the sins of the fathers, my friend...the sins of the fathers," replies the man in the pointy watch cap. He turns away and heads toward something that looks strangely like a turnstyle.

Just then, Harlan notices that just beyond the hundred or so guys are about several million beautiful ladies. Women of every description, from about a thousand different cultures and time periods. Each is still wearing the clothing they were buried in; which, for more than a few, isn't very much at all.

From the direction of the turnstyle, a loud voice booms out.

"So whatsa matta you? You thought maybe this was some kinda joke?"

"Ahhh," says Harlan.

"And my name ain't Pietro! It's Keiphah, you putz!"

Keiphah is Aramaic for Saint Peter. He's not Italian, he's a jew, from the Middle East.

I guess.

It kinda funny, but you have to really stretch it. I'll give you a clue. Pietro = putz. That's all I'm gonna say.

I once, years ago, looked for some Anne Frank jokes on the internets. I couldn't find any. I could not believe that there were none. It was incomprehensible that no one had made any A. Frank jokes, ever, nor that they would not be found on the web. And yet, I could find none. So I made up my own.

Knock Knock!
Who's there?
Nazi.
Nazi who?
(bad German accent) Nazi people you were expecting, eh, Ms Frank?!

Well, I didn't say it was any good......

All right-- just for those, I'm going to tell you one of the most offensive jokes I ever wrote (and told) when I was a stand-up comic.

Superman walks into a bar, and the bartender says, "That's AMAZING, Mr. Reeve!"

I suppose that joke brackets the range of years it was funny in all on its own...

Cheers,
