new crowdfunding campaign for film based on Ellison story

Postby ATSayre » Mon Sep 01, 2014 10:31 am

My name is Andrew Thomas Sayre. I have recently started a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo for my feature length film, The Song the Zombie Sang, based on the classic story I think you all love as much as I do written by Harlan Ellison and Robert Silverberg.

First off I would like to say here how much of a great honor it is that Mr. Ellison and Mr. Silverberg have afforded me the opportunity to make this film from their work. I can't say enough good things about both of them along with their representatives who have been immensely helpful to me in my efforts to make this happen. I have been an avid reader of these two authors for well over half my life, and their ideas and dreams speak to me in ways very few artists ever have.

I've loved this story for twenty years, since I first read it in my high school library in a classic hardcover edition of Partners in Wonder. The idea of these two characters on different ends of the same path, and how they relate with each other, has captivated my imagination since the very first. And I'm still a little flabbergasted that I really am going to have a chance to make it.

You can visit the campaign's page at the following link:

http://igg.me/at/zombiesongcampaign/x/878366

Any amount of help or contribution that you could make to my campaign would be most appreciated and welcome. Its going to take a lot of help and a lot of money to make this happen, but I know there are enough people like us out there who love Ellison's work and who would be excited to see this story on the big screen.

If you have any questions, or would otherwise wish to get in touch with me, please feel free to do so, either through the campaign page, the film's official website (http://www.zombiesong.com), or leave a message in this thread. I will be happy to answer any of your questions or read your thoughts on this endeavor of mine.

Andrew -

Welcome to the Forums. I strongly support your effort (and need to find a way to make a donation).

Please feel free to post and engage people here on the Forums.

I will. Thank you.
You can make a contribution on the indiegogo campaign page at the link above. Either through paypal or credit/ debit card. Even have some nice perks depending on how much you contribute.
And my project wound up winning the Indiewire project of the day this morning, which is a great feather in the cap.

There's a new interview I gave this week available at Moviepilot online about the project for anyone who is interested.

Been slow for a couple of weeks now on the project front, but there's a new interview I gave for an online mag called Cinema Addicts:

Might be a couple more by the end of the week.

Two new bits today.
First I was in another podcast with some British guys in Weekly Geek Speak:

I'm on around 1:06 or so for anyone who wants to skip ahead.
Then there's an interview at Comic Book Movie and Reviews:

I am not sure if you already have them, but a Facebook page and Twitter account might help keep this in front of people. Regular updates keeps it alive in people's attention zones...

I do have both a facebook page and a twitter account. I'm more active on the twitter account than the facebook page, though I do update facebook with all pertinent updates.
Both are useful, but also have the same problem of 'screaming into the wind' that all social media has.

I'm thinking of a specific film-topiced site. In which you can post regular updates, and people who have donated are invited to follow along as the project matures. You can also link to the podcasts and articles.

Essentially a core news source.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean. Do you mean a more film centric site? I do post on a few of those regularly as well. I just felt it couldn't hurt to just put updates here as well as here in a thread specific for it. If that's not appropriate here I can stop.

No issues at all with posting here, you can post what you like.

I'm trying to think of ideas to expand getting the word out, not contract it.

My suggestion is to create a strictly film-oriented page on Facebook akin to something like this:

https://www.facebook.com/ProjectTorchwood?ref=ts&fref=ts

That would give you an additional forum to attract attention, directly related to the film's funding campaign.

Oh, there's one of those too.
https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Song-the-Zombie-Sang/679858478734781
The thing about facebook is, at this point its so inundated with paid posts and other adverts, a lot of people tune it out. Its influence has really waned recently. I know three friends who have deleted their accounts altogether in the past four months. I barely go there that much myself anymore for the same reason.

My film project based on our kind host's great story 'The Song the Zombie Sang' is now up for Indiewire's project of the month. You can vote for us at the following link:

http://www.indiewire.com/article/vote-for-the-september-2014-project-of-the-month-20141001

Voting is open till Monday the 6th at 10AM EST.
The prize for winning this poll, apart from the notoriety of doing so, is a creative consultation with the Tribecca institute about the project. Which would be a great opportunity to make solid contacts and inroads into one of the country's best indie film resources.
I hope you all can take a moment and help.

Two new bits today.
First, a new interview with myself about the project was posted on Indiewood/ Hollywoodn't, which is by far my favorite site name of all time:
http://indienyc.com/interview-a-t-sayre-writer-director-the-song-the-zombie-sang/

Second, tomorrow at 2:30PM EST I will doing a live podcast interview with The Cutting Room Floor with Casey Ryan. You can listen in here:
http://tunein.com/radio/The-MIXX-Talk-s154484/

After the show is archived I'll share the link to that here as well.
