"Disappeared" Mason Proffit Album

Postby shandragore » Mon May 21, 2012 8:06 pm

I believe that many years ago I read in "The Glass Teat" about a Mason Proffit album that had a strong anti-war message and suddenly disappeared from the market despite brisk sales ...

Can anyone help me with the name of the album?

Well, there's their most enduring single, "Two Hangmen" -- still makes hippies & bikers alike cry (though we get kinda weepy after a few beers anyway... )

As for albums, I'd guess that might be Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream. I haven't seen a copy since I broke up with my first girlfriend in 1981. Here's some examples:

However, it HAS been reissued: http://www.amazon.com/Last-Night-Had-Strangest-Dream/dp/B00081914W/ref=sr_1_5_title_0_main?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1337920829&sr=1-5

The band had a huge influence on the rise of country-rock, but aside from core fans they were never really appreciated. The founders later popped up as The Talbot Brothers.

IMO, if you dig into their catalog, give Rockfish Crossing wide berth. It's not bad... just a bunch of covers & pub tunes (aside from "Were You There?").
