Earworms

Postby Lori Koonce » Wed Nov 02, 2011 10:04 am

Earworm: A lyric or phrase that you cannot forget no matter what you do.

Mine right now is a line from a song called Punked Up Kicks by Foster the People:

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks you'd better run, better run, outrun my gun.
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks you'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet

What's yours?

I try to avoid Leonard Nimoy's singing of The Legend of Bilbo Baggins, as it will start playing over and over in my head. Must listen to music now, don't think of that song....

Thanks, Chuck.

Decades after hearing that one, I'd managed to forget it.

Until now.

Thank you.

Thank you ever so much...

Don't do it! Think of the people you'll leave behind! Think of all the things you still want to do.

But most of all....

Think about how hard it will be fore me to clean up after you!!!!

Was driving into work this morning and caught one of the "humor" channels on XM.

The comedian -- and I use the word loosely -- had decided to add lyrics to the theme to the old Sanford and Son . Bad lyrics. Decidedly unfunny lyrics, even the first time around.

&%#ker's been in my head all morning.

Lori,

My head wouldn't fit in our blender, so nobody will have to clean me off the wall/counter/floor/ceiling.

I'll have to wait a while to see if the long-repressed memory of That Song That Chuck Mentioned fades again. If it does, life will be good.

But if it doesn't... Then I'll have to consider some kind of retaliation. Searching for links to the complete recordings of the 1910 Fruit Gum Company and posting them here might be an appropriate response, cruel though it would be to innocent bystanders.

Bests,

My Dearest Tony

I'm so glad to hear that. I mean what with me being squeamish and all....

*trying not to laugh to hard*

PS. You could do your local PBS station good and get Chuck at the same time. Just make a donation when they are showing something like a Lawerence Welk retrospective and send him the thank you gift.

Now, THERE'S an earworm for ya! Laurence Welk and his orchestra playing The Legend of Bilbo Baggins. That tall, skinny baritone could sing it.

I can just see Lawrence rocking out as he conducts:
"Get-a down and-a boogie-um. Play that-a funky music, white-a boys-um."

I sometimes wake up humming commercial jingles from twenty five years ago. Most irritating. Can somebody why a choral chant from one of my younger brother's school plays, circa 1990, pop back into my head yesterday?

No, but start with "I got clutter. Clutter-clutter-clutter-clut" and repeat...

There's a Prince lyric: "I sincerely would love to fuck the taste out of your mouth, can you relate?"
