Apollo 18

Postby Chuck Messer » Sun Feb 20, 2011 1:08 pm

Here's a trailer for a movie titled, Apollo 18. It looks wonderfully creepy, although I do wonder how NASA could cover up the existence of a moon landing after Apollo 17. Hmm.

Here's the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VA2pPv4T2YE

Smarter than the average movie? We'll have to see.

Official synopsis:

Officially, Apollo 17, launched December 17th, 1972 was the last manned mission to the moon. But a year later, in December of 1973, two American astronauts were sent on a secret mission to the moon funded by the US Department of Defense. What you are about to see is the actual footage which the astronauts captured on that mission. While NASA denies its authenticity, others say it’s the real reason we’ve never gone back to the moon.

I once saw a lift-off from Cape Canaveral and I was in Daytona Beach! When those Saturn 5s went off it was really really loud and visible for hundreds of miles. How would you keep that secret?

That would be a little hard to conceal. The sound waves from Saturn V launches were detected as far away as New York. It could have been explained away as a Saturn V test, I suppose, related to the upcoming Skylab missions. We'll have to see.

Alien was the scariest space horror film ever, so why make this junk?

Just because someone once raised the bar doesn't mean you give up telling a type of story.

Besides, scary, like funny, is in the eyes of the beholder.

And we won't know if this is junk until it hits the screens in April. It has a low budget, but then so did Moon.

For all we know, all the best scenes are in the trailer. We'll see.

Here's the joke...sort of. Kinda.

George Weiss: Ed, you got me mixed up with David O. Selznik. I don't make great movies, I make crap.

Ed Wood: Yes, but if you take that crap and put a star in it, then you've really got something!

George Weiss: Yeah, crap with a star.

That's what Hollywood really excells at making: crap with a star.

But this movie's not Hollywood, it's an independent film, though that's not a guarantee. If they at least make an effort to make this believable, I'm willing to work with them. If not, well, nice try. Better luck next time.

hi chuck,
Penn:"Is THIS your card?"
Ed Wood: Now, what is the one thing, if you put it in a movie, it'll be successful?
George Weiss: Tits.
Ed: No, better than that. A star!
Weiss: Kid, you must have me confused with David Selznick. I don't make major motion pictures, I make crap.
Ed: Yes — but if you take that crap and put a star in it, then you've got something!
Weiss: Yeah. Crap with a star.

They also have a Blair Witch cop, but this one is about ghost hunters in an old hospital. Forgot the title.

Did anybody but me see THE LAST EXORCISM?

This is a really interesting film about a disillusioned exorcist and faith healer who decides to parrticipate in a documentary exposing the phoniness of his ministry and who then receives a letter from a farmer asking for help with his troubled daughter.

Unfortunately I thought the ending was marred by its inability to transcend the cliches of the "Blair Witch" approach.

More I will not say except if they had had just a little more courage at the end this could have been a classic. But nevertheless it is occasionally brilliant and well worth checking out.

It's on DVD.

I wanted to see this one, but it left the cinema before I had the chance (happens alot here). I was skeptical at first when I heard that Eli Roth was involved, but the reviews have been good, and Ezra seems a man of taste, so I will have to track it down. . .
