Of Star Trek Pictures and Daffodils

Hopefully no more time-travel conundra from this upcoming TOS2 sequel. Get straight to the point; fighting off the Klingon non-turtlehead subspecies.

I wonder if the Doomsday Machine is still wandering around alternate-space.
- I love to find adventure. All I need is a change of clothes, my Nikon, an open mind and a strong cup of coffee.

I'm willing to bet that this new script will avoid any and all references to things encountered in the original series. If they wanted to keep the original structure intact, the next encounter would be a salt vampire.

Still a superb thread.

Jan - Dollars or Quatloos?

It'll be curious to see how/if JJ deals with the repercussions of the vastly reduced Vulcan population in the background of a new film. T'Pau and company held a lot of sway within the Federation - science, diplomacy, reason. What will Pinocchio do without its pointy-eared and coolly logical Jiminy?

There are any number of directions they could go in, but I suspect Klingons will come to the table in some fashion. I wouldn't mind a new-timeline take on the abortive Klingon war/Organian intercession myself. Lots to explore there.

Surely as the events of the film show Vulcan being destroyed and kirk meeting up with old Spock, the events of the original series would not neccessarily take place or if they do would have differing outcomes? After all there is a rather large paradox being created. Would this mean that Malcoml McDowell's character does not kill Kirk? Or that there could in fact be a new univeral story line where everyone lives in peace and harmony??

Whatever the case may turn out to be the writers have in effect now got carte blanche to do whatever they feel like doing without upsetting the die hard fans (ok they will be upset but so long as there is a technobabble explanation then its all just peachy). Hopefully there will be some good stories come out of it all.

How about this for a writers' challenge: actually depict the Enterprise carrying out its mission, going boldly where no one etc., etc.? Make the heart of the plot exploration and meaning and the boundaries of scientific knowledge?

I know it could be done, but no one's gonna do it.

What will this new crew look like, after two or three years of true exploratory fervor?

The answer is obvious. Spock will grow a goatee, Kirk will have a live-in mistress with a talent for using the captain's private disciplinary device, and the Federation will turn into a cut-throat empire where everybody moves up in rank when the captain is assassinated.

Now, a dirty mind is a terrible thing to waste, but was it just *me* who thought that the easiest way for the salt vampire to get a salty mouthful of human NOM NOM NOM *wouldn't* be from sucking the necks of her victims?

I'm not entirely certain that thing even had, per se, a gender, per se.

Good point. [time elapses]
OK, I checked out the episode on YouTube.
I think it's a "she":
1. The episode is titled "The Man Trap"
2. The salt vampire inhabits the body of McCoy's old girlfriend, Nancy Crater:

3. The vampire herself has long hair with, well, split ends issues:
