Everything has its place on earth. Except mustard. Cut my sandwich with a knife that touched mustard, and it goes into your chest next. (Mustard, I'm a fanatic about. No way, no how. Peggy's gotten me through pickles and curry and beets and a host of other things, but I will not abide mustard.)

Really? Wow. I can't imagine a weenie without spicy hot mustard (not that rancid yellow crap you see in a grocery store). To put ketchup on a hot dog is simply vulgar -sniff-. As for curry I was fortunate enough to fall in amongst folks who could prepare it well. Alas it is much abused. Beets I just never developed a taste for. I don't hate them but they just don't leap off the plate at me.

Taste is such a subjective thing. We must be patient with each others strange ways.

Yeah, it was a fun day. Really an enjoyable adventure.

And yes. Loco Moco is a perfect Texas food, even though it was invented in Hawaii. Spice that puppy up and have for.

Mustard is, Doug's opinion to the contrary, one of God's perfect ingredients.

You sat and watched me eat a Philippe's French dip sans hot mustard, on my one trip there ever, wit you. Didn't get burned at the stake or nothin! In fact, I don't even recall you mentioning it on-site. (I know - it was so inconceivable, your mind put the mustard there.)

What can I say? I've never been one for spreads on my sandwiches (save for an eeensy bit of mayo on occasion, and that's fully sandwich-type dependant), or my burgers for that matter. Even today, I'm just as happy as a lark with meat/cheese/bun for my burger. Sure, I'll throw on accouterment - friend onions, lettuce, bacon, an egg - but I'm not a fan of the basic goopy condiments. No idea the why of this in my formative years, but there it is. (I mean, I know where the 'don't eat my cereal with milk' comes from, but mustard is a mystery. But whatever the circumstance, it was profound - just the faintest taste - I mentioned the sandwich cut with a knife that touched mustard? - makes my stomach flop.)

But look at it this way: it's more mustard for the rest of you. This will be important in the coming apocalypse.

As long as it is not special sauce--ick. Ketchup on a burger is a must. Mustard with ham or other porky.

I know of at least one '50s themed diner in San Diego that serves a burger with peanut butter. The Corvette Diner calls it the "Rory burger" I think. Never had the balls to try it though.

I can see that. Fruit and fish are a natural, and apple works in that situation where citrus would just make the end product watery.

I like ketchup on tuna. Yum.
I had a cousin who put ketchup it on his strawberry shortcake. IMO, he didn't deserve strawberry shortcake. Ever.

Yeah, I get the apples and onions. Some excellent tuna salad includes by ingredients.

My most traumatic childhood meal was a ghastly concoction called "creamed tuna on toast".

My memories paint it as far worse than it probably was.

Have a marvelous dinner last night with Andrew and his buddy Jeremy. Irish pub.

They had fish and chips. I had a jalapeño and bacon flatbread.

Not an ounce of haggis between us.
All I need is a change of clothes, my Nikon, an open mind and a strong cup of coffee.

Oh I caught it. I'm just too polite to mention it. :-)

Truthfully though, I think that a good time was had by all. The food was good, the company even better. (plus it was nice to meet a fellow Marauder)
