Rabies! Whoopee!

Postby Ben W. » Mon Jul 04, 2011 6:01 pm

I'm doing a little research on a particular topic, and I would love some help.

Is there a medical case of anyone, anywhere, at any point in all of recorded history, being able to fight off rabies without the help of a vaccination while enduring minimal damage to the brain or the rest of the body?

Personally I have never actually heard of one. But you have to remember that in the UK rabies was pretty much wiped out a long time ago, most due to quarantining of animals.

The last Rabies case I heard of in the UK was a chap who's job involved surveys of the bat population in Eastern Scotland. Apparantly there is one species of bat in the UK which still has a preponderance towards carrying the rabies virus. Sadly that gentleman died even with the anti rabies drugs. So I would suggest the likelyhood of anyone surviving rabies with no treatment sounds impossibly slim.

Ben --

In all honesty, in this case, and any others, see a doctor and get the shots. Not worth the risk.

rabid:
–adjective
1. irrationally extreme in opinion or practice: a rabid isolationist; a rabid fan.
2. furious or raging; violently intense: a rabid hunger.
3. affected with or pertaining to rabies; mad.

and then again there's "typhoid mary"

I've always wondered if being an American couldn't be thought of a a "lifestyle illness", actually.
