No idea what the source of this is. I'll leave that in the capable hands of our moderators.

But for those of you going 'what the heck?' (and my Russian is a bit rusty you understand)...

The Indonesians passed some kind of law restricting something (blasphemy? insulting religion?) on the Internet and some hackers took revenge on a govt website by shutting it down.

Interesting to learn the Russian word for hackers, Хакеры, which would be pronounced ZAKERI.

Unlike my usual practice, I'm gonna leave this one up but remove the links.

Ezra's post is far more interesting than the spam itself, and may lead somewhere good.

Matters who you hack and why. When some hackers killed the China firewall, that was a good thing.

From Babel Fish, here is the text of the original message:

Hackers, into the protest against the adoption on December 31 in Indonesia of law about the prohibition of propagation in the Internet, carried out breaking the site of the ministry of information of the country. Criminals placed on| state resource claim about the fact that it is necessary to prove that this law is created not [dlya]" the cover of the bluntness of [pravitelstva]". Hackers placed also this site the manifestation of the local [IT]- consultant of government with the exposed breast taken v. at the given moment, according to the data Of reuters, inscriptions and video were removed from the site. Everything, on January 1 in the work of Web- resource there were failures. New law forbids propagation, and also the materials, which call to kindling of national and religious dissension. The disturbers of law can obtain of up to 6 years of prison and to $109 thousand penalty.

The source of this email does intrigue me also....
Governments, if they endure, always tend increasingly toward aristrocratic forms. No gov't in history has been known to evade this pattern. And as the aristocracy develops, gov't tends more and mroe to act exclusively in the interests of the ruling class

Yes, but the links embedded (which I have removed) led to some rather uninteresting porn sites.

Things that make you go "hmmmmm...."

BabelFish always makes my head hurt.

Russian is a beautiful language and this makes me pine to scrape off the rust. Conversational fluency might be too much to hope for but I could get my reading chops back.

All languages have peculiarities and Russian's is its verb forms. Depending on whether an action took place entirely in the past or is still ongoing, you use a different verb. Not a variation but a completely different verb. Of course this allows for a subtlety of expression not always apparent in English.

It's funny but I didn't find the cyrillic characters (based on greek) all that difficult.

Take for example the word Индонезийские

EEN-DO-NEEZ-EE-KEE-YEH (H is an N, c is always an S, p is an R, etc)

Indonesian

Хакеры hackers is just a direct lift from english.
