WTF Happened to the forums?

Postby admin » Wed May 20, 2009 4:22 pm

Yeah so I updated to phpbb3. You now have the capacity to edit your posts, provided you do so within 4 hours of posting them.

There are also all sorts of keen new things you can do. I don't really know what they are, but I am assured they are there.

Let me be the first to congratulate the WEBMASTER for the groovy new look and the opportunity to use groovy in a sentence!

It's odd how disturbing a visual format change can be.

We get so used to taking everything in at a quick glance in order to know what to do next.

Served on a template, as it were.
War is, at first, the hope that one will be better off; next, the expectation that the other fellow will be worse off; then, the satisfaction that he isn't any better off; and, finally, the surprise at everyone's being worse off. - Karl Kraus

You did it!
And now can we have the old version back on even-numbered days?

Wow.

I feel so... 21st Century.

There are LOTS of different templates available. This is the default one.

I don't have mods loaded to the template anymore so if you guys look on the phpBB site/forums and find one you think suits us better, I'm all ears. I don't personally have time to look into it...just getting this rolling without losing the user accounts or posts took too much time as it is...

Boy, this will take some time to get used to. I feel like a person who's house was replaced with one of those media houses.

I don't know if I like it, but it's different..lol

This template is fine. There's no need to try to fancy up the place. Nor is there any need to spend more time making it different. What is important is that the messages can be seen and understood, and this template does that just fine.

Works for me.

Of course, I also still don't see right after years spent reading millions of yellow words on a black background.

I like the new look and the ability to edit posts, within a short period after submitting them, is a welcome one

I have heard reference to the old board many times. I am curious, how long was it up and when was the format changed?
Governments, if they endure, always tend increasingly toward aristrocratic forms. No gov't in history has been known to evade this pattern. And as the aristocracy develops, gov't tends more and mroe to act exclusively in the interests of the ruling class

I think the format was changed because it was so 20th Century.

The old black and yellow board existed from August 1995 to April 2003, co-existing with the current Art Deco Dining Pavilion for about nine months before the BBS went the way of the white elephant. It was much like Art Deco, but with the snazzy colors, a sharp looking fly who was around here somewhere, and no established per-day post limit. The threaded phpBB setup replaced it after its closing. Good times, bad times. But it was almost never dull. You can peek into the past (no Wayback Machine required) by following the Archives link from Art Deco if you're morbidly curious to see what the 90s wrought. But I'll say it was a good ship. When fire wasn't being set to it.

As great as an upgrade like this may be, start spreading the news that pocket pc's have lost their ease-of-use factor here. Columns show up at wacky angles all over the screen, and pages now cause browser-seizure during loadup.

Nevertheless, posting is still possible.
