from this morning's Harper's Weekly condensed weekly wrap-up...

"...It was revealed that the
National Security Council had given the CIA written
approval of waterboarding, and the Republican Party in
Sacramento, California, removed the words "Waterboard
Barack Obama" from their official website. "Some people
find it offensive," said county chairman Craig
MacGlashan. "Others do not. I cannot comment on how people
interpret things."...

I'm sorry but they don't make an emoticon for berserker rage so I'm at a loss for what to follow that up with - except perhaps that I'd like to see a site advocating the torture of Mr. MacGlashan and see if perhaps he might have a problem with that - or if it's all just a matter of interpretation.

With all the crazy stuff coming out about how vicious the GOP are it still boggles the mind that Obama is only up by about five points.

Reports of voter disenfranchisement by Republicans are already starting to come in.

Is anyone doing a damn thing about it?

Leaves ya with a REEEEEEEAL sinking feeling.

Reason # 39 why I hate people and weep for the "grown-ups" who are supposed to be elevating the conversation.

If you have two molecules of righteous PC'ness in you then do NOT hit that link. If you DO hit that link read to the end of the piece before passing judgment. KSK is some razor walking tricky-stuff and not for meek.

The rest of you - you're welcome.

Barney, that was the best smile of the week, man.

I usally can't get into KSK, just 'cause I don't know the sports references, but now i'm intrigued, because one of the tags at the bottom is i could eat a nob at night and the black karl pilkington.

Karl is a radio/podcast producer in England and he was discovered as a 'personality' by Ricky Gervais while doing his podcast. Karl's world-views are bizarre and unorthodox, to be kind, and very skewed and hilarious when he attempts to explain them. One of the only people i've ever heard who can make Gervais his straight man.

i could eat a nob at night is a reference to a conversation they had on the podcast a couple of years ago about when the best time of the day it would be to be gay. That line of Karl's was tracked into movies and dubbed into house beats by hundreds of the show's fans. Karl got semi-famous and wrote a book. He just came out with another. End of free plug. I just think he's hilarious. Seriously, you choke with laughter.

So, thanks again. Now I have one more online writer to delve into. Since I have no time as it is, I imagine this will put me behind till after inauguration day. I am a glutton for punishment.

Stupid Inland Republicans. It's kinda like that old saying, "I don't read it for the racism, I read it for the arrogant stupidity of people getting caught doing stupid things then being surprised everyone doesn't feel the same way about the lame joke, so they have to back-pedal and attempt to apologize, but negate their own reasons for why they said they did what they did, and ultimately reveal themselves to be far more horrible people to the other folks who probably already thought this person was a condescending bigot to begin with."

Can't remember who said that. Will Rogers... someone like that.

Yeah, KSK is this weird insular culture. I'm also NOT a sports junkie and usually have to google half the players. I had to google Ocho for instance to fully appreciate how much fun KSK has been having with him. Since they put whatshisname away for dog fighting he is their new whipping boy.

But the coaches and the fans and the fat-pipe sportscasters and ESPN all get abused. It's that Shakespeare "All are puni-shed" stuff. They spread it around.

It's weird because on the one hand ON THE SURFACE there is some horrible racist stuff on KSK in the PC sense but in a very real sense what they are doing is picking at the scab of all these fucked up racial perceptions and making it funny on a 1970's National Lampoon level. Even the commentators have some real game - which is why I lurk but almost never chime in.

And real racists are DRIVEN from that board like we bitch slap trolls around here. It's currently my second favorite internet site.

All you East-coasters, check out their Emo Eagles Fans tag. You will weep.

Have you seen David Grier's Chocolate News yet? I haven't.
Two people I know have said it's Daily Show un-PC funny, two others said it was lame and could be more Boondock-ish. My co-worker (who didn't like the show) said Grier could write a book called Black Jokes for Idiots. He said it sarcastically, but I thought that was actually pretty funny.

It's a hard line to walk. For instance sometimes I'll flip over to BET but I have to turn it off because often my over-riding thought is that it's not helping but rather HURTING black culture and race perception. It doesn't all have to be a Ken Burns documentary but, well, I dunno, I see stuff on BET that makes "feets don't fail meez now" jingoistic crap seem nuanced in comparison. IMHO.

To get back to the serious...

Obama did a lunch time press conference an hour or so ago focused on foreign policy looking FORWARD with about 20 brainiac type foreign policy wonks flanking him on the stage. No flags, no banners, just think tank style folks backing him up. And I mean there had to be something like twenty of them on that stage. Plus some GREAT Q&A. Obama has given more content driven press conferences BEFORE being ELECTED then Bush, Jr. has given since being APPOINTED.

If you can find it on Youtube I believe it's one of his best yet and just screams "I've got your "presidential" right here."
