Actually, Steve, I believe synchronicity is exactly the word you're looking for.

From Wiktionary: "(Jungian psychology) Coincidences that seem to be meaningfully related; supposedly the result of universal forces."

A Memorable Dinner Redux

Name: Slaymaker Source: unca20090104.htm Last night my hubby Sputnik (it's a nickname) and I went to Trattoria la Festa in Stowe for dinner and had one of the best meals we've ever had. On a prix-fixe menu we had a fabulous antipasti, and a good Caesar's. Sputnik had a Black Angus sirloin stuffed w...

In my family they call themselves the out-laws. In self-defense. I have a very large extended family, and the out-laws have to deal with first, second and third cousins as well and once and twice removed. It's a little daunting.

Anyone else drive 1900 miles in 9 days to visit friends and family? (LA to Mesa, AZ to Snowflake, AZ to SLC and back). I don't plan on driving for a month. I can't quite claim that, but I did drive 1100 miles in 5 days (Northern Vermont to west of Philadelphia and back). I do it so often, though, t...

Actually, Mike, my beliefs would pretty much cover all three definitions. Here's another story: about three months before my 40th birthday, I picked up a wonderful book called "Crossing to Avalon" by Dr. Jean Shinoda Bolen. The book had a deep effect on me, and I decided that I had to go o...

I was raised Presbyterian, but would probably, these days, be considered a pagan. My husband is Jewish. We raised our daughter with no religious training at all (but had both Christmas tree and Manorah when she was little). And yet, she is kind, considerate, extremely spiritual and has great moral f...

Frank, your analogy would work if you were talking about Israel bombing the shit out of Palestine because a suicide bomber took out a couple of people at a bus stop. I would say it looks more like this: if South Central was a separate city, and the mayor and the entire police force declared that the...

At the risk of sounding like a woman with a period, I'm not the dude you wanna fuck with when that happens. Rob, be careful. Saying things like that will get most women pissed off pretty quick. While there are a lot of women who are hormonally challenged at certain times of the month, there are als...

I'm sorry, Frank, but I have to weigh in on the other side on this one too. I think Adam-Troy's take on the situation is (you'll pardon the expression) right on. Hamas has made it quite clear that the only resolution, as far as they're concerned, is the total destruction of the state of Israel. They...

Long and Boring Explanation of Why I Stalked Ellison

OK, here's a story: Earlier I had said that after some prodding from Harlan ("you look like a perfectly nice woman - what's wrong with you?"), I did some serious self-examination and came up with what seemed like a reasonable explanation. I am a WASP. In fact, I'm so WASP I'm lucky I have ...

Greetings from the land of McMansions

Name: Sara Slaymaker Source: unca20090104.htm Checking in, Frank. Or as Harlan has been known, on occasion, to say: "I'm here! I'm here!" Racism

Name: Sara Slaymaker Source: unca20090104.htm I just read that President-Elect Obama will be sworn in on the same bible used by Abraham Lincoln. I am in tears. Racism is easy to identify, to act against, to target and say "bad!" Prejudice is a more difficult, slippery slope. Prejudice requires a mo...
