Congratulations to Rick on his frisbee triumph. Frankly, I did not realize there was any such thing as a frisbee championship but I admire the game from way back and applaud your expertise, Rick.

Name: Laurie Source: unca20080731.htm Robert Ross: If it makes you feel any better, I once had a friend who was in the last stages of lung cancer. He recovered from the lung cancer fully and then, twenty years later, died of a heart attack brought on by an all night wild party in Vegas. And that wa...

Steve Dooner, Harlan...

Name: Laurie Source: unca20080731.htm Although I agree with you, Steve Dooner, about too much promiscuous "sharing" of our personal stuff, there are times when sharing pain can let others know they are not alone with theirs. I think that is one of the things I have greatly admired in Harlan's work....

Rick Keeney and KOS...

Name: Laurie Source: unca20080511.htm Rick, let me add my congratulations on having your new child. I have observed many friends go through that super-awake period and they all thought it was worth it---many years later. Bonzai--what a terrific nickname! Be well, take care, glad the reading is good...

Great little dinner party at Cafe 50s

Name: Laurie Source: unca20080511.htm I enjoyed meeting you, Jan, Tanya and Duane and it was good to see you again, Steve. The food was great, too, more calories more enjoyably consumed than is usual for me. All in all, a lot of fun, good conversation, terrific people. Harlan, take care and get wel...

Looking forward to a meeting

Hi all: Can't do weekdays because of my job but any evening is OK. I, too, would prefer someplace that has less rich food. I'll try to think of someplace--maybe an Ethiopian restaurant? That is, if you guys don't mind eating with fingers. These places can be fun and they have a lot of low calorie lo...

Name: Laurie Source: unca20080511.htm I am sorry about your friend, Mr.Olney. You are right when you say that publishers of insight and integrity have been rare and are becoming extinct. I remember how delighted I was to see those books come out, how I purchased them as soon as I saw them. One of t...

Benjamin Winfield

We were riding in a taxicab in a rough part of New York City at the time. As we gazed out the window at all sorts of threatening looking humans and other ugly sights, he a...

WGA strike humor in LA Times

Name: Laurie Source: unca20071217.htm In the LA Times today, I read the Non Sequitur cartoon, and did find it slightly funny, then read the La Cucaracha cartoon, found it less funny...and then read the Editorial "We are all writers now" by Jeffrey Korchek which I did not find even a little bit funn...
