Re: Copyright vs Copywrong

Rap is a black art and you all are not culturally black.
I'm whitey, so I have nothing meaningful to add to a conversation about rap? Well played, Frank. First the camel-jockeys remark, and now straight-on black/non-black race-baiting.

What a fabulous October you're having for yourself.

Re: Copyright vs Copywrong

Guess who defends rap? Quincey [sic] Jones. He is a top jazz master as well. ha.
Yay. EVEN MORE "Frank Church talks down to everyone with his endless parade of name-drops to remind the rabble how ill-informed and stupid their opinions are." Collect 'em all. Trade 'em with your friends.

Re: Whatcha listening to?

Artistry? As in "technically proficient", maybe. As in "art"? Like any other art, it's purely subjective based on audience. You may hear music. I hear rhythm, which I consider a different animal. All of that effort, put into learning to scratch records in a rhythmic fashion is us...

Re: Robert Nason's Culture Café

Nason, would you keep your politics out of your reviews? Especially if the film has a lefty tint, like Killing The Messenger. News media is ignoring it, obviously.
Coming from someone who injects politics into EVERYTHING, this is pretty funny.

Re: Copyright vs Copywrong

Doug, it was at a hip/hop summit I saw online. Cornel West has said it. It's not that deep of an issue. That's called "Anecdotal". It's not a citation. Your word, historically, has proven unreliable multiple times, and as such is of dubious value to me. Cornell West has said it? Tell me w...

Re: Copyright vs Copywrong

Ezra, RE Menand's article: 1) I'm not entire sure Menand understands how browsers work. If he does, he doesn;t express it well. Asserting that clicking the 'Back' button shows you're actually still at the previous website suggests a very slippery grasp on how the internet actually works. There reall...

Re: Copyright vs Copywrong

Poor blacks used old records for musical breaks because they could not afford to play instruments and they did not have art and culture taught in schools. Name one. No, really Frank. A name. Since sampling pretty much originated with DJs spinning in the seventies, finding innovative ways to branch/...

Saw them in a free gig in the grand foyer of the Kennedy Center, early on when Peggy and I were dating (late 2008?). Great set.

Re: Robert Nason's Culture Café

The hell you don't. It's a treat to watch jazz cats swing and groove. Why wouldn't you watch Basie Basie do his thing? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHMYhajNtNg Or Monk? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzGm0qOooJ4 Or Miles and Trane? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9A2bPzLHnU Or Art Blakey and th...

Re: SCIENCE VS RELIGION

Hope for a better day, not a bad thing to believe.

Why not "Carpe diem"? Seize the day. Make it a better day.

Hope with one hand, act with the other, see which develops callouses first.

Re: SCIENCE VS RELIGION

I think part of the problem is using the word "faith" interchangeably for both aspects. Now, this isn't a new tactic, but it's a weak one. Everyone knows the word means multiple things, and those meanings need to be clear. If you lump them all together in an effort to show "a-ha!"...
