Support Toodle Day

Any opinion on this from Frank Church? It seems sather absurd that a PD would crucify people in a church, on the orders of The Church. But that's what history's all about, I'd say. Maybe it makes as much sense as imagining supporters of both Palestine and Israel meeting up on a BART train to duke it...

---CORRECTION---

I think I'll withhold my nomination of The Bumper Book of Magic until 2011; unless it actually gets finished early -- or, they change the rules.

Three Gaimans to Choose From

Which has the best chance: Coraline, The Complete Death or The Dangerous Alphabet? And here's my early nomination for the 2010 Hugo -- http://www.topshelfcomix.com/catalog.php?type=2&title=578 Somebody may get a laugh out of some Hi8 footage from yesterday: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZ3B2gj...

I'll Look for Something

What did Alan Moore write for last year? Graphic novel Hugos might prove challenging to select, but these works are typically less collaborative than a cinematic production. Does eligibility include the actual date by which the work was written? What if the script was actually written several years ...

Carefully Avoiding Copyright Issues

Traffic is one group that might play well with highway footage. Also, there may actually be some Traffic videos in youtube; posted without consulting the group. This particular camera/auto-editor test footage was set to music whose owner got notified, and he quite possibly will contact me about remo...

A Morning's Dose of Hi8

Just to catch the light of the "magic hour" this morning, shortly after dawn and before the fogbank took over, I went out to catch a few final frames with the old Hi8 (before it gets traded in for an almost-as-old MIniDV) camera. It's music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElM06fvgiCs&f...

HORSESHIT!

sorry -- don' mean no disprepek 'specially not to those "mackerels" in high office or was it Malthusians that they kept repeatedly naming themselves? No matter, although it seems unlikely that their party will be again resorting to an equine analogy at any point in the future.

Putting the Cart Before the Horse

After watching a pre-election appearance of the 2008 R. candidate for president on SNL, the Obama Landslide no longer seems quite so surprising. It seems like he and his Alaskan running mate could have spent a little less time declaring one another "The Masochist" -- or whatever word they ...

Whatever

If ancient history is any indication, the future of America/Israel in the Middle East could possibly be predicted with a single word: "Whatever." Whatever is most atrocious thing one could imagine there, it will probably happen at some point. But just as an abstraction, a way of looking at...

Next time, remind me to see Casino Royale right before Quantum of Solace. It took me until last night to remember what happened to Vesper in the first film. And will Bond still be hunted by the special services in the next movie? Maybe there will be some sort of trial involved. Who got presents this...

Here's to a Better Bond

After defying all expectations, by attending a viewing this week of Quantum of Solace, I dare say I don't feel entirely cheated. Over the last year I've heard the doubts of many, over whether a film with such a title could manage to attract even a single dollop of audience. Instead, this new verite ...

How Many Viri Can Live on the Head of an Insect?

While getting carried away with humorous understatement of some of the lesser evils hosted by Baghdad-by-the-Bay, I forgot my original intended reply.

How about, an Easy Rider remake, but science fiction.

Same characters, same issues and conflicts, but now set amongst the future Mars colonies.

Hellstrom vs. Andromeda

I remember going to see the Hellstrom Chronicles, when it was playing in L.A. one summer vacation; just as I recall a viewing of the Andromeda Strain there, which was apparently two years earlier. Obviously, the microscopic world will eventually have the upper hand over the insect populations. From ...

Weird Scenes Along the Mekong

That spider looks like the last vision witnessed by a green beret in 1968, right after he ate a cyanide spewing caterpillar on a long range patrol.

Who would have believed him, anyway?
