Re: Depression

Diane, if you need our shoulders and ears, here they are! It is frustrating to not be able to get in contact with one's doc re: medications. I hope that situation resolves itself sooner rather than later, for your comfort and your safety. Lori, I'm glad that your mom has reached a point of acceptanc...

Re: THE PAVILION ANNEX

Yet, it also comes to my attention - from student from Israel - that the policies of the Israeli government over the years have inflicted MASS poverty on the residents of Gaza, mostly in response to the Hamas takeover; poverty is a consistent formula for disaster. People grow desperate, hateful, un...

Re: THE PAVILION ANNEX

Something a little less fraught with controversy (or maybe not): http://marktiedemann.com/wordpress/?p=1612 Mark, this is a lovely blog! :) I'm not a photography buff, but for a while I dabbled in cinematography before digital took over. The real please of a fine lens is truly amazing. We had to ch...

Re: THE PAVILION ANNEX

The reason civilians seem to be on the hit list is because your guys seem to like to hide behind civilian skirts while they lob rocket grenades. In reality -- ie, actual practice -- our military often puts itself in greater jeopardy because they are trying to avoid striking civilians. But when Gaza...

Re: Depression

And it could be worse. For the longest time my mom kept on reminding me that Jesus could heal me if I asked for it in the right manner. Gospel of Thomas, Book IX: "Quoth the Lord, 'Oy Gevalt!'" Yup, that is worse. Way, way worse. Not only does it insist that you believe in someone else's ...

Re: Help! Stories about composers and/or musicians?

I just looked up the professor. He is Ruth Marshall Magill Professor Curt Cacioppo, Chair of the Music Department of Haverford College. The course I took with him was in 1988.

Re: Help! Stories about composers and/or musicians?

David, I remember an anecdote told to my Chopin master class at Haverford College, but I can't find a source for it. Anyway, the story goes like this. Chopin and Liszt attended an opera concert which was so awful they spent their time laughing about it. The next day, the newspaper published a florid...

Re: Depression

Thanks so much, guys. It helps. I'm still really angry. I'm medicating with benzodiazapines, which are approved for these (really and truly) PMS episodes by my psychopharmacologist. Those and zyprexa really help. It's just so...infuriating that I can't explain to my "friends" that -- hey -...

Re: Depression

KVETCH/VENT WARNING ON! A friend wrote to me about coming to visit. I was honest and said that I'd been having mental problems and that it just wasn't possible at this time. This person knows I have severe bipolar illness and am on 16 medications. Person wrote back to me that, "mental 'problems...

Re: Frank Church's news corner, the sequel.

Ya know this would be funny except for the fact this goober might be the next president. Ezra, is he still holding that $50,000 a plate fundraiser dinner in Israel on Tisha B'Av? His people actually backtracked on that gaff and said that they *meant* to do that as a "fast-breaking" meal. ...

That is, besides the Devil. If you believe that sort of thing. Stay away from crossroads at midnight, Frank.

Beautifully stated, Rob. I agree. However much we, as a species, remember our past, it seems we are driven to repeat it.

War is something we're good at.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ LIKE! :D Artists' work must be protected. Royalties and/or residuals are an important source of income for many. Now, some may call me Dawkensian for that belief, and they would be right. Frank, the poor man selling the street sheet newspaper with a poem he's written in it for a b...

Re: Wathcya watchin'?

People are fascinated by Nazis. I think it's because they either 1) secretly admire them for almost taking over the world; 2) wonder how a populace could have been turned into meat puppets by such an evil regime; 3) see the US heading the same way and are looking for the canary in the coal mine. Hey...
