Re: Visual Artist's corner

But, I'd like to think that I'm not the only person who looks at what they do and think it's crap. I know we all compare ourselves to the art and artists around us, I just tend to be a bit more harsh that my outer critics. Oh, my stuff is absolute crap. I can hardly bear to look at it. But it's min...

Andrew It's guys like you and Barber that make me wonder why the fuck I'm even bothering with classes. Those are amazing shogsy. Let me underscore what Steve just said. The only people who really fail are those who quit. I learned by buying books, paling around with a couple of other photographer w...

Re: ESSAYS ON LIFE: Nobody Asked Me, But...

I’m 60. What this means for the purposes of this post is that I lived through the assassinations of JFK, RFK, and Martin Luther King Jr. I watched the reactions of the nation on the news, listened to the discussions that went on constantly for weeks and months (and in many ways are still going on), ...

No, you wouldn't. Since I've been posting here, I haven't seen you do so once. As soon as the rebuttles come in, you change the topic and pretend you didn't light that fire.

Re: Frank Church's news corner, the sequel.

Doug is a swell feller but he is no historian or expert on Palestine. Look for Rashid Khalidi's Iron Cage and Benny Morris on the Jewish side. Patrick Cockburn and Robert Fisk too. No. No. No. No. You want to taken seriously, here was an opportunity for you to take Doug's points, one at a time, and...

Re: Frank Church's news corner, the sequel.

My mother, peaceful soul that she is (truly), offered a suggestion to at least begin ending the stand-off between Israel and Palestine. Flatten Jerusalem. Neither of them can have it. Turn it into glass. Once done, get down to organizing yourselves into responsible states, now that you don't have a ...

Re: Frank Church's news corner, the sequel.

The last thing Hamas wants to any kind of rationalization of relations. They stay in power by having an enemy. Normalize affairs and they'd actually have to govern. Keeping the pot stirred is to their (short-term) advantage. Longterm I think they're looking for any opportunity to overturn the status...

Trust him for what? This is what happens when we turn celebrities into paragons.

Re: SCIENCE VS RELIGION

I just thought of an example of the kind of mindset I would willingly militate against, at least verbally, and do. Man has a massive coronary. The EMT arrives, three guys work on him to keep him alive till he gets to the hospital. Turns out he has no insurance, but it doesn't matter, they bring him ...

Re: Frank Church's news corner, the sequel.

Mark, I think you will find LOCUS is an entity with its own set of rules, guidelines and activities. Our esteemed patron has railed on many occasions regarding same. I know, and the story is more complicated, but still, my point remains. Was I suppressed? No, I was ignored. There's a difference.

Re: Frank Church's news corner, the sequel.

There's a series called the Forbidden Bookshelf, which releases suppressed books. Books are not banned outright, but they are suppressed if the media or corporations do not like the subject or who it may upset. I talked about the Chomsky/Hermann book pulped in the 70s, later released, but not as we...
