Re: Wathcya watchin'?

I loved that Frankenstein. There was something extra creepy about that monster. . . Some total stranger pointed out to me an even earlier film, from like 1901 or something. It was a haunted house, with ghosts appearing everywhere in puffs of smoke. . . Someone knew right away what this new art form ...

Re: Whatcha reading?

Finally finished Doctor Zhivago , which I started months ago. I kept dragging it out, partly because I got distracted by other things, and partly because I didn't want it to end. It was one of those very rare books that become a companion for me, and made life make sense when it was otherwise being ...

I feel your pain - I've also had two collisions in less than a year, ruining two different cars. I'm actually afraid to drive now. Ten years of a spotless record, then "BAM! BAM!" all at once. I can't win!

Re: Whatcha listening to?

My choir's putting on Handel's "Messiah" tonight (which I am shamelessly promoting), so mainly that one, counterbalanced by some fine (?) Scandinavian Black Metal, to match the arrival of winter.

Re: Copyright vs Copywrong

And who was telling me sampling was music for poor people? Did he seriously mean to imply that turn-tables and piles of engineering software and equipment were inexpensive? Less so than a third-hand guitar, or recorder?

Re: Copyright vs Copywrong

If we want a system of public funding of the arts the way to go is to subsidize music education and arts programs in our schools. People have to be trained to appreciate the best work. Unfortunately the folks who think that commercial success equals artistic success are the ones who control the pur...

Re: Wathcya watchin'?

I adored Blake's 7 . It had a very "dry" style that took some getting used to, but was well worth the effort. The early episodes especially were really well written and tightly plotted. I enjoyed the first season much more than the second, but haven't seen all of them yet so. . . The Docto...
