Still No Country for Old Men

Name: K.M.Kirby Source: unca20090314.htm A library copy of that award-winning movie, No Country for Old Men, made it through my pc's dvd player sunday night, with only four or five restarts (due to the usual odd surface nicks and scrapes) before making to the ending. Wow, what a film! I'm guessing ...

She Will Always be "Pip" to Me

After an across-the-table encounter with Gigi Edgley, Chiana--or Pip--of the former Farscape, I'm wondering why some of these performers can't actually do conventions as some character or other. There probably are some sorts of copyright or contractual details that prevent such outright breaches of ...

Finding Space for the (Ho-hum) Fans

I felt the same way last weekend, when the time came--at long last--to propose, or perhaps confirm, something like "marriage" to Princess Leiah. The whole thing takes on a completely different flavor when you actually come in contact with someone who, up until then, exists outside you pure...

WonderCon or DundraCon?

paul -- I think you may be referring to the DundraCon edits. The WonderCon thing ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhFLWBhuzXo&fmt=18 ) is 8:28. The next one will be KublaCon in May. But back to WonderCon, Adam West talks about his Batman days in this one -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07XWlWX...

It wouldn't surprise me if a screenplay for Halo Jones isn't already circulating. Those Kabuki books have a polished look; I brought one home the library and returned it, without actually reading. You know what I'd recommend? Those Rick Geary things, about various historical figures, really impressed.

Image of the Beast; I'm sure I read that one, in my voracious-fan teen years. Those Riverworld books sure were great. I was already well-versed in Genre by the time of my unexpected visit to the Farmer Digs. Harlan, on the other hand, I first met in the mid-sixties. As I recall, it was an encounter ...

The Farmer's Daughter

I've recently enjoyed the recollection of one night, decades ago, at Philip José Farmer's L.A. place, when I was removed to separate quarters to enjoy a tea party with one of his daughters. I can't remember a single thing about it -- did it truly happen at all? -- yet, there you have it. Probably so...

But would the slumdogs of India be celebrating the big win of a similar, uplifting tale of modern American shitbirds?

Anyway, are the enraged Hindi still tearing down the movie's posters over in Vendhya?

Scumbag Makes Good

Wow, I only missed twelve guesses about this year's Oscar outcome. Since the only selection I actually saw was Iron Man, perhaps I got more right than statistics should allow. But as for the big winner of that evening, sadly I passed up on two different occasions to attend free preview screenings. I...

Constantly Monitored by Artificial Intelligence

That "Rhino Bucket" story seems to open up a can of worms. Why would any label decide against using youtube as a promotional tool? There are many other places to post video, some presumably offering better legal terms and higher resolution. If a video exists in youtube, it enjoys certain a...

All Just Fodder for Youtube

I don't know who's supposed to be in charge of copyright violations at Youtube. I know that some videos get spotted and "pulled off the air" for including certain things; yet, even so, a lot of concert material appears to remain indefinitely. If live music is included in a home video, will...

Google Must Die (not)

Re; a recent Shellenbarger in the main forum -- does that google search page show a deliberate attempt to construct an "Ellison" result using unauthorized book cover scans? If so, it's nice to look at. However, since artistic choices were made as to the selection of individual book covers,...

Still Clueless about Carbon Dioxide

Clearly, the gopsters are performing their obstructionist head games over everything other than war profiteering. They're apparently even willing to go the extra mile in denying the inconvenient truth about recent climatic fluctuations. There's a thousand-and-one other bits of minutia over which the...

Will Desalination Save Us

Desalination plants may have been mentioned before by local bigwigs, yet there's nothing concrete at the moment. Our top-hats still seem overly obsessed by the turnabout profitability of pseudo-warehouse condo lofts. It still goes on, despite the on-paper losses they now face due to lower demand for...
