Re: Depression

If Donna &/or Andy go on official record denying that there's been any such hokey-pokey going on, then this puts them in the legal hotseat, & some judges do NOT look kindly on being lied to. Yah, when my marriage was disintegrating twenty years ago, the shrink I saw saved my sanity, simply b...

Re: Frank Church's news corner, the sequel.

I was oddly pleased to hear that Rand Paul & Ron Paul both whored themselves out to the GOP. Guess I've had too many "Libertarian" pseudoprogressives shove the Pauls in my face as "moderates" for too long.

Now if the Reds get Jim Hightower, I'm movin' to Canada.

Re: Copyright vs Copywrong

If Warner were to have bought up the Warhol estate, they'd be claiming that all images of bananas now belong to them alone. I'm being sarcastic, of course, but also dead serious -- it's a business maneuver. When you've got a few hundred lawyers sitting around picking lice off each other, you put the...

Re: The "Great Recession": Almost over, or just beginning?

I'm a bit of a compulsive counter. Some part of my brain, unless occupied with an interesting problem, notes & logs numbers. So, some random-seeming thoughts. ________________ Over the past couple of months, beef prices at the grocery store have inched upward. Cuts that cost me $3.50/lb a year a...

Re: "Disappeared" Mason Proffit Album

Well, there's their most enduring single, "Two Hangmen" -- still makes hippies & bikers alike cry (though we get kinda weepy after a few beers anyway... ) As for albums, I'd guess that might be Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream . I haven't seen a copy since I broke up with my ...

Re: Wathcya watchin'?

Watching Canadian television. Good heavens, the COOL stuff we don't get... Little Mosque on the Prairie is a simple little half-hour sitcom, adequately described by the title. The ubiquitous Carlo Rota is a highlight. Da Vinci's Inquest . Long-running cop show centered around a crusading coroner, Ca...

Re: Frank Church's news corner, the sequel.

The majority of self-styled Anarchists or Libertarians that I know aren't very anti-government. They want government done their way . If someone truly loathes the game, they should cash out & step away from the table. A player might poke at the rules to get an edge, but by definition that's game...

Re: Sounds of Evil: the Metal Thread

For the Adult Swim (Cartoon Network) series Metalocalypse , the imaginary band Dethklok was created. The band is mostly Brendon Small, who also created some wild guitar tracks for the cartoon series Home Movies . The parody of death metal is so totally spot-on that it's actually some awesome death m...

Re: Depression

Attention to detail, generalized problem-solving abilities, diligence, pride in workmanship... all have been in steady decline for many years, all earn ridicule from the mass-mind. My day-job consists mostly of being a general-purpose problem-solver for transit buses, at the "finish line" ...

The same Rightists that squeal endlessly about the evils of Political Correctness are the very ones who go into fits when called "anti-abortion." George Bush's yet-untreated cocaine addiction is only mentioned by "conspiracy theory" crazies... yet the Birthers are "grassroot...

"conspiracy theorist" is another Gingrichism, like "flip-flop" & "blame-gaming." Always, ALWAYS suspect terms that are used to limit discourse. I have had deep questions about 9/11 since about... hmm, 8:00 AM Mountain Time, 9/11/2001, as I sat in front of the TV. Th...
