Re: THE DOCTOR...is in

It has been fun to expose my kids to Dr. Who but it was surprising to see how prevalent it is across the younger generation. Many friends of both my kids watch Dr. Who, with some focused more on the older version, and others on the newer ones. Mine have watched mostly the new series, but I can never...

Re: Whatcha reading?

I have never been into audiobooks, but I received as a birthday present this year Neverwhere on audiobook, with all of the voices done by Neil Gaiman. It was pretty amazing, and fun for me to revisit that work, since I had not read it in over 15 years. Ezra, I would certainly recommend that story, e...

Re: Wathcya watchin'?

I may have to start watching Arrow, as Barber told me how much he enjoys the show and, believe it or not, I actually do trust your opinion, Keeney.

The only issue is that, now that Amazon Prime has older HBO shows, I may finally get around to watching The Wire and finish the Sopranos

Jan, I missed this when it was posted by Harlan, so thanks for re-posting it here.

On The Slab, as you know, is among my favorite Ellison stories

Re: Frank Church's news corner, the sequel.

Robert, we don't know each other but others on the board can confirm that my job is to manage Compensation for a large University & I have been doing this for many years. The issue of gender pay inequity is a real one, but it is generally not statistically valid to use one data point to draw a c...

Re: THE PAVILION ANNEX

Robert Nason, certainly wins the most droll list submitted so far. I have to say I was proud of my Saturday matinee double feature. Steve had mentioned that I should stop by the Forums again when I saw him a couple of weeks ago so I thought I would pop my head in, since I am rather unmotivated to do...

Re: THE PAVILION ANNEX

Paul,

Vent away my friend. And if you want to call, my cell phone has not changed from the last time we spoke. Let us know if there are any developments

Re: THE PAVILION ANNEX

Paul, just checking in and saw your post about your friend. Any updates? Lori, hope your Dad continues to improve and has the full recovery you expect Those posts by "Matt" over in the Pav were a bit suspicious in my eyes. Anyone else get a sense that Rob might have been the one actually s...

Re: Adventures in Eating

The best meal I ever ate was at a family style restaurant in Florence called Il Latini. No reservations, so we arrived about 90 minutes in advance of opening to make sure we got a seat. We were the first ones in line and had a chance to chat up the staff. The staff helped you pick out various appeti...

Re: Whatcha reading?

Mark, Thanks for the response. I had no problem with Severian's profession and, as I said, I found the concept of the book fascinating, but it just did not grab me. It is not a book I plan on getting rid of but think I will wait a while before I dive into it again. I have found books can be like win...

Re: Whatcha reading?

Mark, Having heard such glowing reviews of The Book of the New Sun (and having met Gene Wolfe briefly at MadCon a few years ago), I purchased a used copy on Amazon. I stopped about 100 pages in when I just found I could not identify with the characters. It seemed like a great concept book but for wh...

Re: Wathcya watchin'?

Just about to begin season 4 of the reboot of Dr. Who, the last season with David Tennant. What has surprised me about this new version of Dr. Who is how genuinely creepy a lot of the villains are. I know that the Daleks were very scary when I was a kid but such creatures as the Host, the Beast in t...

Re: THE PAVILION ANNEX

Not a big hat person, especially when I need a haircut and the jew-fro is in full bloom, but I do have a "Revolve in Peace Pluto" cap that I wear when I got for early morning runs. I picked up that hat on my last visit to CA, which reminds me I probably need to get some new jeans (a person...

Re: Whatcha reading?

Sam, I do not find it strange at all that you find Valentine & Peter's stories to be as compelling as Ender's. I know a number of people who felt the same way. Ender was fairly removed from the rest of the world, his siblings gave us a perspective on what their society was like and some rather p...
