I come away from this with hope, that the bulletin board will return with some changes, but if it doesn't, that I've met some very interesting people here. I'll see you all on the Pav and Facebook and in e-mails.
Bittersweetly,
Chuck

Re: One of My Creations
Tim, the hull was fabricated by using 2/3 of a U.S.S. Skipjack model and the other 1/3 is an Estes model rocket nose cone. The rest was scratched from white styrene plastic, with some resin parts from an inaccurate Hunley model, brass portholes and a metal propeller. For those who don't know, my e-m...

One of My Creations
Here are some photos of a model I've built of Capt. Nemo's Nautilus. It's based on Verne's descriptions and the look of some real 19th Century submarines, such as the Hunley, the U.S.S. Alligator, etc. http://oi62.tinypic.com/ehhjig.jpg http://oi59.tinypic.com/a3cgfb.jpg http://oi58.tinypic.com/dwbb...

Yeah, it's a bit like, "Give that to me! Give. To. Daddy. Don't make me rap your fat little knuckles you little..."

Re: Spill yer guts.
I suppose the above snippet was a bit of an experiment, with only one bit of dialogue -- the quote from Goebbels' speech. I'm not sure what I'll do with that bit just yet. The title that popped to mind was Götterdämmerung . Of all the threads in this place, this is the one I'll miss the most. Chuck

Re: THE PAVILION ANNEX
I think you've got a good idea, Steve. A moratorium would be better than a complete closure, and there are things I'd rather not lose.

Re: THE PAVILION ANNEX
I'm sorry that this forum has to shut down, but I understand the reasons. Rick has had enough heartache and ass-ache in his own life without dealing with our shit. Steve certainly has plenty to tend to out in meatspace without having to come in and intervene when he's out of town. I've enjoyed this ...

Re: Spill yer guts.
Here is just a snippet, a slice of life, a scene that played in my head years ago after watching The World at War once again. It's not part of anything bigger, at least not at this time. BERLIN 1945 The men were assembled in the Berlin square, their ashen, unshaven faces matching the gloom of the ov...

Re: Frank Church's news corner, the sequel.
And even in that statement, you have it wrong: it isn't Patriotism that is a dangerous religion -- it's Nationalism. Patriotism is your support of your state as a country (a patriot can work against the government, for instance). Nationalism is believing your state to be superior to others (a Natio...

Re: Wathcya watchin'?
I'll be watching the series finale of BREAKING BAD tonight. What a show it's been. I mentioned earlier that the story arc was a lot like a film noir, but told over six seasons. Another parallel I see here is THE STRANGE CASE OF DR. JEKYL AND MR. HYDE, both the story arc and the character arc of Walt...

On You Tube, THE AIRSHIP DESTROYER (1909), an early British SF/Technothriller about a heroic young inventor who wants to marry his girl, but Potential Dad-In-Law says no way, but then Britain is attacked by a fleet of airships from some Other Country (guess who), bombing the crap out of everything i...

Re: Running vs Bug Collecting
Indeed I do, Frank. Not so much now, though. Gone for the season are the plagues of flies and miller moths. There was one moth, though, not a miller. It was nearly as big as a hummingbird, gray with black and red patters on its wings and a red body. It was so big, it kept triggering the motion senso...

Re: Running vs Bug Collecting
On the other hand, runners never inspired Them . . . Perhaps they inspired 28 Days Later? Late in the summer, I had just settled in for a long night's work shift, when I spotted a preying mantis on the floor. Fascinating little critter. It didn't seem to mind my presence, didn't flee my giant index...
