Re: THE PAVILION ANNEX

Animation's got to be the hardest. How in the hell do animators draw those frames at a rate of 24 per second? Don't their arms get tired?
Frank?

Re: Sounds of Evil: the Metal Thread

Way back in the time machine for this one. Way, waaaay back. To the Vietnam War. You're in a foxhole, fighting in a war that can only be described as purposeless, nonsensical and violent. Around you is all the napalm, LSD and hopelessness you could ever want. When out of the blue, on 69 MHZ on the F...

Re: THE PAVILION ANNEX

I meant to post this on the Pavilion, and I probably will at some point. Heck, it probably deserves its own thread here: I've been reading SF for the last 40 years, pretty much since age 11. And for some reason, because someone somewhere told me the book either wasn't 'an exciting read,' or it was '...

Re: Where is Duane?

Apologies AGAIN for being away so long. Went through a couple of job changes (Creative Channel was a contract job that didn't go permanent, and I took on a stop-gap job doing data entry for a petition drive for a few months in Culver City), but after five months at my NEW new job -- I've finally sco...

Re: The MITT Documentary

In answer to your question, Frank, I grew up in the church, served a mission (in Ohio, of all places), went to BYU. The only other Mormon thing I haven't done yet is get married. My beliefs have "evolved" (heh) over the years. I take very little literally, but I appreciate how my participa...

Don't have time for a detailed answer right now, Frank, but in the meantime, you might want to check this out. :)

The MITT Documentary

Greg Whiteley is a good friend of mine. He's a documentary filmmaker, known primarily for NEW YORK DOLL, the film about Arthur "Killer" Kane of the New York Dolls who quietly retired, became a Mormon, and lived a discreet life in west LA. Well, he's got a new film out: http://www.youtube.c...

Re: THE PAVILION ANNEX

It hasn't been this dry here in a long time. But then again, it hasn't really been too WET, either. When I first moved here back in the 90's, it seemed like every year roads would close because cars would get stranded in intersections from the unrelenting downpours. But there's something called the ...

Where is Duane?

Right here. The Webderland has never left my heart. However: * A new job after 2.5 years of no job (Web analytics at a branding and advertising agency called Creative Channel), * Marathon training, and I can't believe I'm putting myself through THAT again, but trust me, that's where the action is, *...

MACHETE KILLS isn't high art, but it doesn't have to be. It's Robert Rodriguez, Danny Trujillo, and one big ass hunk of slivering iron. What else do you want? :D

Re: Spill yer guts.

Hey Tim! It was a real pleasure to meet you on Saturday. And like I said, your poetry's awesome. I'd like to add to what's been said about "soul sucking jobs" and their drain on creativity. Here's the thing: I've been WITHOUT a job for nearly two years now, and believe me, poverty is no pa...

Re: Adventures in Eating

Since this is a food thread, I thought I'd show you the Dutch processed dark cocoa powder I make hot cocoa with: http://www.amazon.com/Cacao-Barry-Extra-Brute-Powder/dp/B003ZTP120/ref=cm_cr_pr_sims_t Two tablespoons of this stuff + 1-2 tablespoons of dark brown sugar (to taste) for every 6 oz milk. ...
